The Freedom of "Mobile Working"

With advancements in technology it is easier to be connected to one's business from anywhere in the world. I remember the days where we used PC anywhere to connect via the internet to our office central computer. Today with tablets, smartphones and laptops we can be connected to our business 24/7 all year round. I called it Mobile Working and it means you can have more vacations than ever before, more work and play days, whether you travel or spend part of the day fishing while connected to your business. No question this is a great improvement in quality of life and therefore our health, happiness and the way we enjoy our journey on earth. Less time trapped in traffic, less commuting time and loss productivity, more time for family, friends, sports, and any activities we enjoy, not to mention savings in gas, tolls, car or public transportation.

The question is how do I get to be part of this trend? well for self employed folks and business owners it is easier to set own hours and properly plan where to live, how much time to spend at the second or vacation home, balancing work and leisure. If you have one of those dying 9 to 5 jobs, do not worry. First, employers are analyzing productivity more than ever. Management by Objectives is becoming more and more relevant. The man-hours wasted in traffic and commuting to and from the office can be translated into productive working hours or personal time that will translate into a more productive employee at the end. Since technology allows now to work remotely, more businesses are allowing employees to work from home 2 to 5 days a week, having conference calls or video conferences and of course some face to face meetings when necessary. This frees up time to go to the Gym or your son's soccer game or daughter's play, spend more time with your spouse and enjoy activities that enhance your body and spirit. If your job is still an old 9 to 5 inflexible schedule then talk to your boss and propose a test of working remotely for a period of time and then evaluate results. You will be amazed how receptive employers are when they can see positive results. 

If you are one of the lucky ones like me, that owns a business or you are an independent contractor or self-employed person, you just need decision and planning. Of course some trades do not allow for this kind of freedom. A plumber, a Doctor, Dentist or an electrician cannot work from home or from the beach house and may be confined to a job schedule but technology may allow them to plan longer vacations in most cases. For the rest of us that can, one way or another, be absent from a physical location, we need first decide we want to become "nomads" as far as working is concerned.  Proper planning, setting up the right infrastructure, methods and procedures and having the right technology are crucial to be able to achieve this freedom without hurting the business. I created this blog to discuss these important issues and ideas so we can be remotely enjoying life going where we want to go and doing what we want to do while working and taking care of our business. In this blog I will show you what I learned in my journey to being 100% mobile, how I continue to achieve more in my business than ever before at the same time I have more time for me and my family that I could ever imagined.
